Sharsheret Teal and Pink Shabbat® serves as an opportunity to raise awareness among communities about breast cancer and ovarian cancer while highlighting steps individuals can take to protect their health and share the vital support and resources Sharsheret offers.
A dedicated Sharsheret liaison will guide you on how to create an impactful Shabbat program tailored to your community’s needs. We provide a wide range of resources, including a planning guide, promotional materials and talking points. Whether you’re hosting a large-scale event or an intimate gathering, we offer tips and tools to ensure your Shabbat is both successful and inspiring.

Build a Committee:
Designate a chair/s (include yourself!) and build a committee of 5-10. Pick the activities that are right for your community. If you need help thinking of activities and an event schedule, Sharsheret is here to help!
Timing:
Check your community calendar to schedule a date, and find a free Shabbat! Remember that September is ovarian cancer awareness month and October is breast cancer awareness month. February is also the month of Sharsheret Pink Day. When you have a date, let us know so we can promote your event and post on our website!
Speakers:
Consider inviting a local breast cancer or ovarian cancer survivor or previvor to share their personal story with your community. Personal testimonies are powerful and can help raise awareness and support for those affected. If you know any community members who have been impacted by breast or ovarian cancer, reach out to see if they would feel comfortable speaking. If you’re interested, we may be able to help you find a speaker, and may provide you with our Sharsheret talking points.
Additionally, you might consider inviting a local medical or mental health professional to speak about cancer awareness, risk factors, and prevention. Alternatively, the Rabbi could incorporate Sharsheret’s message into their sermon by using our Sharsheret rabbanic talking points to help educate and inspire the congregation.
Speakers can present during either a sermon or educational program helping to inform and empower your community.
Resources:
Order free Sharsheret resources, giveaways and educational conversation starters for your Shabbat meal. Sharsheret Shabbat resources include:
- Traditional prayers/ songs/ and poetry focused on healing
- Talking points about healing
- Resource connecting Torah portions to healing themes
- Rabbinic talking points
- Ritual Well readings for people affected by cancer or other illnesses
Events:
Consider planning an event before or after the Teal and Pink Shabbat services—on Thursday, Saturday evening, or Sunday. Activities might include a challah bake, Sharsheret toy or make-up drive, sisterhood brunch, flower arranging, and more. Events can be geared towards participants of all ages and may focus on Sharsheret themes such as education, health awareness, and community building. Whether educational or fundraising focused, these events are a wonderful way to bring the community together and support Sharsheret in a meaningful, engaging way.
Challah/Babka Bake:
Host a challah bake on Thursday, Saturday night, or Sunday to bring your community together and educate about Sharsheret in a fun and interactive way. Encourage the participants to keep the challahs or babkas, sell them and raise funds for Sharsheret, or give one to a neighbor in need of support. When friends or family ask why the challah is pink or teal, participants can share what they learned, thereby spreading breast cancer and ovarian cancer awareness. Budget/Fundraising:
When planning the event remember to think about a budget and which community members or organizations can sponsor the supplies. Consider if you want to add a fundraising component to your Teal and Pink Shabbat.
Marketing:
Publicize and invite friends with captivating fliers, emails, announcements in Synagogue newsletters, and social media posts. Remember to tag Sharsheret on Instagram @Sharsheretofficial. Write a short post, send a vlog, and afterwards, share the pictures from your event for Sharsheret’s website.
